ConAgra/Kirkwood Update 10-28-05 Aldi’s Kirkwood Pot Pies have lard in the crust. They are designated Unclean. Safeway Select Update 10-28-05 5 Cheese Garlic Toast contains L-Cysteine. It is designated Unclean. Bayer Update 10-07-05 The gelatin used in all of their One-A-Day formulas is derived from a combination of pork and beef. They are designated Unclean. Nissin Top Ramen Noodles Update 09-30-05 All products are designated unclean due to the fact that they are processed in a facility that also processes shrimp. Maruchan Ramen Noodles Update 09-30-05 This brand isn’t processed in a facility that processes shrimp. They are ok until further notice. Peak Foods/Lakeside Update 08-05-05 Aldi's frozen whipped topping (all varieties) is vegetable based and is designated Clean. OU Kosher Products Update 07-22-05 Please check the labels of all *OU kosher certified products for the food additive L-Cysteine: The OU has determined that L-Cysteine is kosher for the following reason: Although human flesh is prohibited, human hair, collected from the living is permitted. Contact the company and find out what the source of the L-Cysteine is. It can come from human hair, horse hair, chicken feathers, cow horn, petroleum by-products and synthetic materials. 99% of L-Cysteine in the US is from human hair from Asia, Japan and Germany. *Orthodox Union--Symbol is a Circled 'U'. Vienna Beef Products Update 07-15-05 The Vienna Beef Franks and Polish (Retail Only) are made using a plastic casing to form them while processing and is later removed to produce a skinless product. They are Clean. The Beef Franks and Polish 8 or 12 pack (Wholesale/Resturant) are made using a sheepskin casing. They are designated Clean. Please be careful when ordering these items at a deli stand due to the fact that other products that might be pork derived may be boiled in that same water. The JUMBO Beef Franks and Polish typically are processed using natural pork casings. They are designated Unclean. These products are processed on seperate equipment. There is a change with the color lettering on the boxes of the Vienna Beef Products: BLUE = POLISH RED = FRANKS Dunkin' Donuts Update 07-15-05 There are 2 Dunkin' Donuts that are certified kosher by the CRC: 3132 W. Devon in Chicago, IL. and 3900 W. Dempster in Skokie, IL. So far we have obtained definitive information concerning other chains of Dunkin' Donuts: all of their Bagels and Cake Donuts contain L-Cysteine and are designated Unclean. Nestle PowerBar Update 05-20-05 The Nestle Wild Berry Original Performance PowerBar & Raspberry & Cream Original Performance PowerBar contain Carmine and are designated Unclean. All other PowerBars are Clean and suitable for vegetarians but not vegans because they contain dairy. Jewel Products Update 05-17-05 All of Jewel Brand Refrigerated Biscuits, Breads, and Crescent Rolls contain Beef/Pork derived ingredients and are designated Unclean. The Jewel Brand "Grocery Aisle" Breads (The Hot Dog Buns, Hamburger Buns, White, Wheat, and Sweet Wheat Breads) are made by North Baking Company and contain vegetable derived fats, oils, and dough conditioners. They are designated Clean. The Jewel "Fresh Bake Shop" Bread Products (Breads, Buns, Cakes, Cookies, Croissants,Donuts, and Pastries) may contain Pork/Lard/Beef/Vegetable/Plant or Synthetically derived ingredients/additives and are designated Unclean. They stated that they have hundreds of suppliers and that they couldn't guarantee that pork/lard is never used. They also stated that they have 2 Jewel Grocery Stores that have Kosher Bakeries, they are: 2485 Howard Street in Evanton, IL. and 1600 Deerfield Road in Highland Park, IL. We were told that not all of the products at these locations are kosher, you have to check the labels for the Circle U or triangle K, or Star K, or Kof K kosher symbols. Old Orchard Brands Update 05-13-05 Old Orchard Brand Juices, Drinks, and Frozen Concentrates containing Cochineal Extract and/or Carmine are designated UNCLEAN. Products without those ingredients are Clean. Read the labels! Sara Lee Products Update 05-13-05 (Updated 05-17-05) The Mono-diglycerides and Oils used in their products could be animal or vegetable; they don’t know which due to the fact that they use multiple suppliers and because the breads are produced in different bakeries. They could not give a guarantee that pork is never used in their products. They also stated that their breads are no longer kosher certified because their marketing department chose to do away with having their products certified kosher. The following Breads are made by Sara Lee and are now designated UNCLEAN: BIMBO (not Bimbo Bakeries USA) EARTHGRAINS ALL PRODUCTS BEARING THE EARTHGRAINS BRAND NAME. ALL OF JEWEL'S REFRIGERATED BREAD PRODUCTS BECAUSE THEY ARE PRODUCED BY EARTHGRAINS. IRON KIDS SARA LEE BREADS Emes Kosher Jel Update 05-13-05 Their is a lab report circulating the Internet stating that lab tests were done independently of Emes on the source of the ingredients used in their product and it was discovered that the product contains animal derived collagen. We contacted Emes Kosher Jel and were told that their product is Parve (no meat or dairy) and that they have contracts with large manufacturers to perform protein scans of their product to ensure that it is free of animal content. We have designated Emes Kosher Jel CLEAN. Jennie-O Turkey Products Update 05-13-05 The Smoke Flavoring used in their Turkey Ham product is non-pork and is proprietary. No pork derived ingredients are used in this flavoring additive. TURKEY BACON contains pork additives and is Unclean. EXTRA LEAN TURKEY BACON is all turkey but is processed on the same equipment with the Turkey Bacon and therefore is designated Unclean. SAUSAGE LINKS have a pork or collagen casing and are designated Unclean due to the fact that they are processed on the same equipment. TURKEY FRANKS are made with a ‘man-made’ (synthetic) casing and contain all turkey meat (no pork), and are processed on different equipment and are designated Clean. FROZEN BREAKFAST LOVER'S TURKEY SAUSAGES have no casing and no pork derived ingredients and are processed at a different facility. They are designated Clean. J.M. Sucker Co. Update 05-06-05 All of Crisco's products are designated Clean. The mono-diglycerides are from vegetable sources. ConAgra Update 05-06-05 All of their Butterball products are designated Unclean due to the fact that their turkey bacon contains pork drippings and are processed on the same equipment. Bimbo Bakeries USA Update 05-01-05 (Updated 05-13-05) Mrs. Baird’s, Bimbo, Oroweat, Marinela, Entenmann’s and Tia Rosa products having an asterisk on the ingredient legend means that the dough conditioners and mono-and-diglycerides are derived from vegetable sources. If there is no asterisk the source is animal. We are still waiting for more detailed information regarding the source of the animal content. Please read the labels! Ross Products/Abbott Laboratories Inc. Update 03-31-05 Their Ensure, Glucerna, Isomil, Pedialyte, Pediasure, Promote and Similac products bearing a circle U kosher symbol are designated Clean. Flowers Bakeries Update 03-31-05 All products bearing a circle U or triangle K are designated Clean and pork free. Some of their products are Mrs. Freshley’s, Mrs. Smith, and Wal-Mart Sub and Kaiser Rolls. Proctor & Gamble Update 03-10-05 All Vick's Products containing Gelatin and/or Glycerin are Unclean.
