GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) Salmon

AquAdvantage has created Salmon using a growth hormone from Chinook salmon and a gene from an eel-like ocean fish that makes it reach market size twice as quickly as other salmon. It has been approved by the FDA and doesn't have to be declared on labels as a GMO.

To be safe, only buy "WILD CAUGHT SALMON" fresh or canned.

They have a large selection of products, so please read the labels. The gelatin used in their products is either bovine (beef) or pork (pig). If it's not stated in the ingredients legend which is used, they don't have a way of finding out. They do have some products that are kosher certified. Hostess Snack Cakes

The gelatin used in some of their products (Chocolate Cupcakes, Orange Cupcakes, Sno-Balls) is from pork and are designated Unclean. Check the labels for pork ingredients.

Some of their products (Red Velvet, Baseball Cupcakes, Sno-Balls) contain carmine, which is an unclean food coloring. They are Unclean. Again, check the label for this ingredient.

Most of their Ice Cream Products are certified kosher by the OU (Orthox Union) and are designated Clean. Must bear the OU symbol and have no L-Cystein in the ingredient legend.

Meat Glue (Transglutaminase)

In commercial food processing, transglutaminase is used to bond proteins together. Examples of foods made using transglutaminase include imitation crabmeat, and fish balls. It is produced by Streptoverticillium mobaraense fermentation in commercial quantities or extracted from animal blood (blood plasma of pigs and cows, specifically the coagulant that makes blood clot), and is used in a variety of processes, including the production of processed meat and fish products. It is our recommendation that if you buy chicken nuggets, fish nuggets, filet mignon, or any meat product that you may think was made with this ingredient, please contact the company to verify whether meat glue was used or not. We know that it is against God's Dietary Law to consume blood, so be careful.

During the fining process (the process of making proteins in a wine clump together so it can easily be removed) some wine companies use gelatin (pork, beef, etc.), shellfish and/or isinglass (from catfish), egg whites or egg shells. For this reason, please make sure the liquor you purchase is clean. After getting additional information today the status of their Ball Park products has changed:

Ball Park Products - All of their Beef and Pork Products (Franks, Hot Dogs, etc.) are produced on the same line and are not kosher certified due to cross-contamination. They are designated UNCLEAN.

Their Chicken & Turkey products (All Varieties) are produced on separate equipment but in the same plant. Due to them being processed with bacon, bacon fat and cheese (enzymes are beef/pork) they are designated UNCLEAN.

Sara Lee Desserts - Always look at the ingredients to make sure that GELATIN is not there.  If so, don't buy it.  Gelatin is Pork/Beef.

L'oven Fresh (Aldi)

The OK (Circled K) Kosher Organization accepts L-Cysteine from duck feathers.  If you see this symbol on a product and L-Cysteine is in the ingredient statement don't buy the product without investigating the source.
Note: L-Cysteine can come from human hair, horse hair, duck and chicken feathers or synthetic (from plant or bacteria).

Sara Lee/Bimbo

On Nov. 7th, 2011, Sara Lee sold their Bimbo Breads to Bimbo Bakeries USA.  Bimbo Bakeries states that the fats, such as mono-diglycerides are made from vegetable sources.  Some of their product line is kosher certified and carry a symbol from the organization certifying them.  Read the label and make sure that the product carries both a kosher symbol and L-cysteine is NOT in the ingredient legend.

The rennet used in their products containing cheese is from a synethic source. Please read the LABELS for additional information about the kind of meat and/or fat used in the products.  As long as those ingredients aren't from an unclean source they are designated CLEAN.

Natural Wellbeing Inc. (Trilex cold sore medication)

Their products are certified kosher. The Trilex has no animal products in it and the Magnesium is derived from vegetable oils.  It is designated CLEAN.

Brown Cow Farm Products
